How long does it actually take a child to finish Noorani Qaida?

Every parent asks this in the trial class, and most websites answer it with a number chosen to sound impressive rather than true. Here is the honest version, along with the things that actually change it.

The honest range: four to eight months

For a child having three to four classes a week, Noorani Qaida usually takes four to eight months. A child who practises for a few minutes between lessons finishes closer to four. A child who only opens the book when the teacher is watching finishes closer to eight — or drifts and never quite finishes at all. The teaching is the same in both cases; the difference is what happens on the days there is no class.

Why the range is so wide

Noorani Qaida is not a book you get through, like a workbook with a last page. It is a set of sounds your child’s mouth has to learn to make. Some children hear the difference between two similar letters the first time they are shown it. Others need a fortnight on a single pair — ṣād and sīn, or ḥā and hā — before it settles. Neither child is cleverer than the other, and pushing the slower one forward before the sound is secure simply builds a mistake into the foundation, where it is hardest to remove later.

Age matters too, but less than parents expect. A focused six-year-old often moves faster than a distracted ten-year-old. What moves a child fastest is not age or talent — it is showing up regularly and reading aloud to someone who corrects them.

What a good month actually looks like

In a well-taught month, a child does not just cover new letters. They go back over the ones they already “know” and prove they still know them out loud, at speed, without hesitating. A teacher who only ever moves forward is not teaching the Qaida properly. The revision is the teaching.

If you want to shorten the timeline, the lever is not more expensive classes or a cleverer curriculum. It is five quiet minutes a day: your child reading the current page aloud to you, even if you cannot read Arabic yourself. You are not there to correct them — the teacher does that. You are there so that reading aloud becomes an ordinary daily habit rather than something that only happens on a screen. Children who do this finish sooner, and what they finish with lasts.
